Knowledge Destroys Fear - Day 3
We were waiting for the answer and we came to know that there are systems and techniques which you need to follow at different situations. An Instructor named Rohit Mishra started explaining to us 'The Belay System' which was quite logical and easy to follow.
Belay System: In the team there are some roles of each member. One person will become the 'first man' then there are 'middlemen' and finally comes an 'end man'. The role of the first man is to climb technically and fix the rope. The second man onwards, everyone will climb it with support of the rope and the first man.
Belayer: The climber who provides safety with the help of the rope to another climber is know as the belayer.
Belayee: The climber who takes belay or support/safety from another climber with equipment is known as belayee.
Rope Fixing with Knots:
How will you fix the rope? Is it like anything I use in general?Yes! It is very easy to fix the rope.
Does it guarantee my safety? The question stands valuable.Yes, It is the safest way to climb and the reason is that these knots won't open if it's bound properly until you open it by yourself.
BOWLINE KNOT: The knot which the climber ties while climbing on his/her waist. (safety knot has to be there which is not shown in this image) It will only get tighter and won't open until you open it by yourself. That's how it's been designed.
TURBAK KNOT was the first knot I learned to fix the rope. It's a rope fixing knot only.
We learned these lessons so early because I was very eager to know how to be safe. Schedule remained same but the thing we were facing together was changing day by day.
The first day we climbed "The Glaces Formation" of rock which was Rock No. 13 at the Basic Field. There are different formations of rock available on the planet and they are,
ROCK FORMATIONS:
1) Glaces Formation: The rock which makes 0°-30° corner from the base of the earth is known as Glaces Formation.
2) Slab Formation: 30°-75° from the base of the earth is known as slab formation.
3) Wall Formation: 75°-90°, is wall formation, that can be any normal wall.
4) Overhang Formation: 90°-120° are Overhang Formations.
5) Ceiling Formation: 120° and above are the ceiling formations of rock.
